Buying Guide
When selecting tape for moving boxes, consider adhesion strength, box compatibility, and value. Here are key purchase considerations from multiple perspectives:
- Adhesive strength and material: Industrial-strength, solvent-free adhesives provide robust sealing for heavy boxes and rough handling, while water-based acrylic adhesives can offer a quieter or smoother unwind for less demanding packing.
- Box compatibility: Most moving boxes are standard 1.88-inch wide; confirm the tape width and a compatible dispenser. If you move many recycled boxes, ensure the tape adheres well to uncoated or recycled surfaces.
- Length and value: Longer rolls or multi-roll packs reduce the number of frequent repurchases. For large moves, higher yardage per roll and multiple rolls are more cost-effective.
- Dispenser quality: A reliable dispenser speeds up sealing and reduces tape waste. Some dispensers include cutting teeth or rolling shafts to prevent tape from retracting.
- Noise and practicality: Quiet, low-noise tapes and thicker substrates can be preferable for office moves or late-night packing without disturbance.
